Schedule Outline -

The festival will offer a variety of workshops that range from "mini-concerts" to illustrated panel discussions to hands-on demonstrations and participatory open mics and singarounds. Bring your instruments and voices!  At 11 AM there will be a Free Family concert.

Come and be ready to sing, clap dance and play along to the many many children's songs she will share with you. Be ready to sing  in other languages, play instruments and dance with puppets....and a special appearance by Mr. Bill the dancing limberjack

Anne Price and Steve Suffet 
Woody Guthrie's New York

Woody Guthrie, the great American folk singer, was born in Oklahoma and came of age in Texas and California, but he lived in New York City on and off from 1940 until his death in 1967. This workshop explores Woody's life in the Big Apple, mostly through his songs, but also through his prose, his poetry, and his drawings.

Traditional Songs And Ballads From The British Isles To America

Some of the songs have choruses on which you can join in. Alan will sing some a capella and some with instruments (banjo, concertina or guitar)

The SlowSing: Deep Listening and Community Song-making

Bring a song for an experiment in communal vocal song-making! Participants will be asked to choose a song, in any genre, that speaks to them, represents them, or moves them.  We will then perform a choral piece that uses each of our individual songs in concert --making a collaborative composition and a sonic group portrait!

Peili Hu is a master Tai Chi teacher and will demonstrate Tai Chi forms and Tai chi sword backed up by the music she uses to teach with. With her husband Pingli Yang, she will also give some background on Tai Chi.

Songs We Like

an eclectic mix of songs, from traditional to modern singer-songwriter, from old-time to Irving Berlin.  What the songs have in common is that (a) we really like them, and (b) we love arranging them for three-part harmony.-

we will share songs that we love singing together in harmony; and talk a little about the process we go through in selecting songs and working out our harmonies. There will be lots of opportunity to sing along.

Playing Styles and A history of the Blues

a combination of a history of the blues and playing styles for guitar, bass, and drums. Bobby has an encyclopedic knowledge of the guitar styles of the blues masters and their place in recorded history. questions and interactive participation are welcomed. -

Who's Who (alphabetical order) 

Norris Bennett Norris Bennett,
lead singer of the Ebony Hillbillies, plays Southern Mountain and country songs from an African-American perspective, accompanied on guitar, banjo, and dulcimer.
Bobbly Kyle Band The Bobby Kyle Band:
Bobby Kyle, Marc Copell, and  Everett Boyd (bass player and music instructor at TRCS)
plays and sings acoustic blues.

Oscar Brand Oscar Brand
is a great performer as well being in the Guiness Book of World Records as the host of the longest-running continuous single hosted show in history, Saturday nights, 10 pm on WNYC, 820 AM, NYC.  The festival is honoring Oscar for his 65 years of broadcasting.

Alan Friend Alan Friend
performs old-time music on banjo and guitar as well as singing American and British ballads, some with concertina, banjo or guitar and some unaccompanied.

Marie O'Connell Marie Mularczyk O’Connell
is a charismatic singer and leader of songs with guitar accompaniment.  Mrs. O (as she is known) is a music specialist/early childhood music
teacher.
Rafael Gomez Rafael Gomez 
es un guitarrista maestro de América Latina y la música clásica (is a master of Latin American and classical guitar.)

Joyful Noise
consists of Linda Prager,Robbie Wedeen,  Judi Meiselman, and Marie Mularczyk O’Connell, whose beautiful voices and excellent harmonies make this quartet a stand-out.
 
Professor Louie Professor Louie
is a poet and spoken word songwriter/performer/rapper.  He performs widely in the New York area and will bring his creative talents to a spoken word based workshop.

Samita Simha

Takako Nagumo
Takako Nagumo
 was born in Japan, came to the United States as a young child, and grew up in Los Angeles. Takako will perform and teach a few of the songs she learned from her parents. These include rounds, animal songs, game songs, ballads, anthems, and more. Don't worry if you don't know a word of Japanese, Takako has lots of experience performing before American audiences.

Anne Price
is a versatile and gifted singer born and raised in New York City. She sings a wide variety of traditional folk songs and many songs from contemporary songwriters including her own.

Steve Suffet
Steve Suffet
is best described as an old-fashioned folksinger. His repertoire is a mixture of railroad, trucker, cowboy, and union songs, old time ballads, blues, ragtime, topical-political songs, and whatever else tickles his fancy.

Triboro Triboro
is Phyllis Elkind, Don Friedman, and Evy Mayer. This acoustic vocal trio hails from the boroughs of New York, but looks beyond the Hudson, to other places and other times, for songs and inspiration. They apply fine three-part harmony to an eclectic mix of musical genres. Hear great old-time, new-time, Carter Family, country, Western, bluegrass and beyond..

has four decades of experience in sound reinforcement and will be providing sound at the stage as he has done at all our programs.

Heather Wood Heather Wood
is a veteran singer from the English revival for some 40 years, dating from her days with The Young Tradition. In addition to the old songs, she has written some dynamite new ones.
