The
Folk Music Society of New York, Inc is a non-profit 501(c)(3)
educational corporation, an affiliate of the Country Dance and
Song Society of America, a member of the Folk Alliance, and a
member of the NY-NJ Trail Conference. It is run by a volunteer
Board of Directors, elected by the membership. It runs concerts,
weekends, classes, singing parties, and get-togethers, all with an
emphasis on traditional folk music of all flavors.

The
weekend kicks off with dinner followed by a "Meet the Staff' and
"Get to know each other" program on Friday evening.
Saturday and Sunday are filled with music and dance workshops,
crafts, hiking, chats, and lots of opportunities for informal jamming
and singing! A time on Saturday afternoon is held open for a "Camper
Concert" where the applause is for you! In the evening there is
a staff concert, followed by dancing for all levels. Late-night
jamming and singing is encouraged. Or you can simply enjoy the
scenery and unwind.

Energizing
interplay: vocals & instrumentals in the best string band
styles. Roustabout
has been around since 1984. The band performs songs and tunes from
the rural South from the1920s and earlier. Roustabout's dedication
to keeping old-time country music alive and well seems second only to
the good times they have and inspire while making the music happen.
If you are looking for a non-medical cure for depression, Roustabout
is as close as you can get. Old-time country music, though often
associated with melancholy themes, has a way of lifting spirits above
the rough and tumble routines of life. When Roustabout combines the
song repertoires and harmony singing of Bruce & Lars with Chris’s
fiddle tunes and Susan’s bass playing, the result is a
performance that can’t be topped. In addition to performing
together, they are all top-notch musicians in their own right and
will also do individual workshops.
Erica
Weiss -
Erica Weiss was steeped in traditional music and dance from an early
age: she enjoyed 8
childhood years in a Ukrainian performing troupe in NYC, and then
she was a member and conductor of the Yale Slavic Chorus. In the 90’s
Erica fell in love with Appalachian fiddle music, and Cajun
and Zydeco dance. She dove in and became an expert performer and
teacher of both traditions. Erica Weiss currently plays guitar,
fiddle, and sings with prize winning old-time bands Rhythm Method
String Band, the Corndogs, the Killer Bees, and Grand Bois Cajun
Band. Erica loves teaching, and is popular with students
ranging from very young children to adults of all ages. Erica has
also taught workshops in guitar, Cajun and Old-Time Band, Balkan
singing, Cajun and Zydeco dance, and folk dance at numerous camps and
festivals. Her contra dance calling is notable for her solid
programming and patience with all levels, including family and
community dance events.
Lisa
Null - Lisa Null’s distinctive voice gets to the
heart of a song and makes it come alive.
She delves into forgotten treasure troves and finds unknown gems,
polishing them until you want to possess them yourself. Lisa has
been singing folk songs all her life but credits N.Y. Pinewoods with
introducing her to a network of friends and enthusiasts who share her
love of traditional music. Her legendary recordings "Feathered
Maiden" and "American Primitive" have just been
reissued on CD by Folk Legacy Records. Lisa took time off from
performing to pursue graduate degrees in folklore, history, and
library and information science. Popular acclaim is convincing her
to perform again for a wider circle of listeners.
Need
