Driving map
Directions: Polytechnic University at Metro-Tech Center, just over the Brooklyn or Manhattan bridges in Brooklyn; just off the Tillary St.exit from the BQE.

From Lower Manhattan:

Via Brooklyn Bridge: keep left on the bridge and where the road forks. Come up to traffic light at Tillary Street and turn left. Next street is Jay St. Parking lots are to the left, Polytechnic to the right on Jay St.  See below “At Poly”.

Via Manhattan Bridge: Straight ahead at end of bridge to traffic light (Tillary Street) and turn right. Next light is Jay St. Parking lots are to the right, Polytechnic to the left on Jay St.  See below “At Poly”.

From NJ near Holland Tunnel: take Holland Tunnel follow signs for Canal St. Come across Canal Street (nightmare in Friday rush hour) straight on to Manhattan Bridge. See above “Via Manhattan Bridge”.

From Upper Manhattan, Queens, Northern NJ, Long Island

Get to Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) south towards Brooklyn (I-278 West). As follows:

Manhattan or N. NJ: Take Triboro Bridge to Queens. After bridge go straight ahead exactly ¾ mile to exit for BQE. On BQE watch construction, and don’t take any exits by mistake. See below “On BQE”.

From Queens: Get to BQE south towards Brooklyn (I-278 West). See below “On BQE”.

From :Long Island: Shortest way is LIE all the way in to connection with BQE south (exit after Maurice Avenue). But this connection is often badly backed-up (especially Friday night). Might consider coming in on Grand Central to exit for BQE (I-278 West) exit shortly after LaGuardia. See below “On BQE” CAREFUL: Straight ahead says I-278 EAST. You want right exit for I-278 West.

On BQE: Continue to exit for Tillary Street. At bottom of ramp continue straight through first light (McDonalds on right), straight through next big intersection (avoid forced left turn from two lanes and forced right turn from far right lane). Next light is Jay St. Parking lots are to the right, Polytechnic to the left on Jay St. See below “At Poly”.

From south or central NJ, Philadelphia, or DC area:

The shortest way is to take NJ turnpike to Holland Tunnel (exit 14 and see above), but Friday traffic will be horrible. If you are around Turnpike Exit 10 or further south, consider the following (longer but maybe worth it):

From NJ or points south, get NJ turnpike to exit 10 (Rte. 440, Outerbridge Crossing). Continue on Rte. 440 all the way to and over the Outerbridge Crossing to Staten Island. After bridge, keep right and follow “West Shore Expwy – Rte. 440”. It will feel like you are exiting, but it is still 440. Come all the way up 440 until you hit the fork at I-278. Keep right for I-278 East (also still Rte. 440) towards Verrazano Bridge to Brooklyn. You follow I-278 all the way to Polytechnic, but there are some tricks.

On 278, Rte. 440 will exit, let it go, go straight ahead still on 278. Continue to the Verrazano Bridge to Brooklyn. Either upper or lower level.. On Brooklyn side, avoid forced left exit to Belt Parkway, stay with I-278. Traffic will merge with you from right, go straight.. Few miles, avoid forced right exit for Prospect Expwy, still on I-278. Big ramp will swing around to the left and merge with other traffic. Keep RIGHT. Right two lanes will continue as I-278. It will feel like an exit, but it is still I-278. Do not take left lanes which say Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. You are now on the BQE (I-278 East). Follow to Tillary Street exit (I think it is two after the Brooklyn Bridge exit). See above “On BQE”.

At Poly:

You have arrived at the intersection of Tillary Street and Jay St. If you need to unload gear, do the following: Turn in the direction towards Poly (left for some, right for others). First small cross street is Johnson Street (also called Tech Place). Turn left on to Johnson St./Tech Place and about 100 feet up you will see the dorm on the left and a small lot on the right (you can unload here, but you cannot park in that little lot). Go through the parking lot (on foot!) and immediately to your left is Dibner Library where registration will be. After unloading, you will have to move your car to a parking lot by going back out Tech Pl. the way you came in, turning right on Jay St. and crossing Tillary. Parking lots are about two streets up on your right. See the map.
