What
kind of place is Hudson Valley Resort and Spa?
It
is a full "Catskill" resort with a heated indoor pool, places to take
walks, great food (with attention to any dietary restrictions), and excellent accommodations. These are hotel rooms with a
private bath, and not the bunk bed setups you find at a summer camp.
The Hudson Valley Resort
and Spa (formerly called The Granite) differs from the older hotels in
that it was built in the late 1950s and was renovated just a few years
ago. The rooms and facilities are all in very good condition. There is
a spa with jacuzzi, exercise machines, massages, etc. (extra charges
may apply).
Eisteddfod??
The
word “Eisteddfod” is Welsh. It connotes a gathering of poets
and
musicians, and there is a large Eisteddfod every year in
Wales.
The name was adopted by Howard Glasser, the founder of this festival,
when he began these gatherings of singers and musicians four decades
ago. More background
information
What
is a "workshop"?
Workshops
run from 45 to 75 minutes and are held in an informal setting (as
opposed to a concert). They may involve several performers
discussing and singing songs; or just one performer in a mini-concert
setting; or could be a teaching session on a particular instrument or
technique. There is plenty of opportunity for audience participation.
What is the "Camper Concert?"
The Camper Concert is the place where anyone can sign up to perform (sing, play, tell a story, etc.). The sign-up sheet is located at the registration desk.
Do I have to go to all the activities?
Go
to the ones that interest you. Many people spend more time
jamming and singing with other participants, enjoying the hotel
facilities (including an indoor pool), or hiking in the area than attending formal sessions.
Can
I come just for the day or part of the day? Do I have to stay
at the Hotel?
It's nice to stay at the hotel so you are right there at all
times but there are rates for admission only (no meals or lodging) for
the whole festival as well as rates for parts of the day.
These
rates are on our main
Eisteddfod-NY page.
What
about the performers — do they stay "backstage" while we are the
audience?
That's
not the kind of festival this is. There is no separate area
for
the performers to stay in. The workshops are informal,
performers
often go to the workshops the same as anyone else, and everyone dines
together.
How do I get
there from here?
Directions are on the main web page. If you need a ride, our
Transportation Coordinator will try to arrange one for you.
Is
there more information?
There is a page with general
weekend information. If you need to contact someone
(during the weekend only), call Heather at 917-279-7546.
If you have more questions, send an email
or call 718-672-6399.
